New breakfast spot serving up egg dishes in downtown Loveland

One of Loveland’s newest breakfast spots may be sharing their space with another longtime downtown restaurant, but the owners are working to make a name for themselves in the local early hours food game.

The Egg Kings, started by brothers-in-law Jesus Madrib and Cristobal Macias, started as a food truck but, as of around a month ago, has begun to use the Cactus Grille on East Fourth Street in the mornings to serve up a series of breakfast dishes.

The two men have worked together in breakfast service for many years and are excited to bring their culinary chops to the downtown Loveland area.

“We try to do everything fresh and have a really nice presentation for people,” Madrib said.

“They have both worked in multiple kitchens throughout their life,” said Ixel Macias, Jesus’ daughter who also has an item on the menu named after her — a skillet with the choice of chicken or steak served with onions, bell peppers, topped with two eggs and served with two flour tortillas and a side of salsa. “To see them finally start something of their own and him be able to start it on his own (is exciting).”

Mike Severance, owner of the Cactus Grille who has worked with them in the past, said that since they are so new, many local residents may not know what they are doing or offering for breakfast.

He said that while they are still getting used to the Egg Kings finishing their service as the Cactus Grille prepares to welcome in customers after breakfast, he has noticed people are impressed with the quality of the food.

“These two guys have a flare for the Mexican-style food that I haven’t seen around Loveland,” he said. “I haven’t had food like what they are putting out.”

The vast majority of the menu’s items match the restaurant’s theme of egg royalty. From Mexican omelets to eggs Benedict to specialty items like huevos rancheros, the Egg Kings offer a wide array of breakfast items for residents to enjoy.
