India’s passenger vehicle sales are estimated to have increased by more than 8 per cent in December 2022, boosting the annual volumes beyond the pre-pandemic peak registered four years ago. Thanks to sustained demand and improved component supplies, PV sales in India seem to have exceeded the previous record by more than 400,000, with sales of 3.8 million passenger vehicles (PVs). Things have been looking bright for automakers at the moment, and they must be hoping to continue with the same momentum in 2023. Here’s what we can expect from them in terms of new launches this year.

Maruti Suzuki: India’s largest automaker is preparing to release several highly anticipated models, including a Baleno-based subcompact crossover and a five-door Jimny. Moreover, the company has been developing an MPV that would be based on the Toyota Innova Hycross.

Hyundai India:
Hyundai, India’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, has planned some exciting launches in 2023, including the next-generation Verna sedan, a micro SUV, and a facelifted i10 hatchback, with a 15% market share as of 2022 and a US$5.5 billion turnover in India. The automaker is expected to announce the prices of its flagship Ioniq 5 EV at Auto Expo 2023.

Kia: On the other hand, Hyundai’s sister carmaker, Kia, could bring the facelifted Seltos to India in 2023. The new Seltos is expected to see changes in front and rear-end styling, new alloys, and a floating dual-display interior panel.

Mahindra:
Riding high on the success of Thar, Mahindra will unveil its compact-sized EV, the XUV400 in 2023 as a rival to the Tata Nexon EV Max. According to reports, this EV will be able to deliver a range of up to 456 km with its powerful 150PS electric drivetrain and hit a nought to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds.

Tata: One of India’s largest automakers, Tata Motors, managed to become the second-best-selling car brand in December 2022 after posting sales of over 40,043 units, showing 13.44 percent year-on-year growth compared to the sale of 35,299 units in December 2021. Tata is expected to release the facelifted versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs in 2023.
