Drivers have reported topping up their cars “twice in a week” as petrol drains quicker. Others have moaned about losing performance under the new compounds with some cars not starting as quickly.
Express readers have also issued their concerns over the new fuel with many claiming they have lost miles per gallon since making the switch to E10.
Reader ‘webwise’ said: “My ’69 Kia Rio is giving 42.6 MPG.
“Whereas, before the change to E10, I was getting 43.2.
“My power is down too, only slightly but still down.”
Even motorbike owners have reported to be struggling for efficiency with the new compound.
Twitter user Lexrax VR said: “Decided to find out how worse E10 Fuel was.
“I had one month of E5 fuel Sept 21 and then did Oct 21 on E10.
“On E5 fuel 241 miles @ 11.48L. Using E10 was 194-195 miles @ 11.21L .
“Crap thing is this E10 fuel, less Power/MPG = more £ spent.”
The Department for Transport has previously warned drivers could lose efficiency under the new compound.
The Introducing E10 Report claimed drivers could see a drop in efficiency of between one and two percent.
However, they warned motorists driving style could have an important effect on miles per gallon rates.
