Readers have warned the new system will be a “danger” on the roads and could “cause your own death” as drivers are unable to escape danger. The new technology was given the green light to install on all cars sold in Europe by the European Commission last year.
According to Autocar, despite leaving the EU, the UK is expected to still take-up the new rules.
However, the proposals have been viciously attacked by readers who have highlighted the dangers associated with the technology.
Express reader ‘MontyWarne’ added: ‘If you are driving down the road and a car [pulls] out from a junction in front of you, the options for avoiding a collision are to use brakes, steering and acceleration.
“Take away the option of acceleration and the chance of a collision increases.”

Reader ‘TruePom’ said: “So, I’m accelerating out of trouble and exceed the speed limit, so the idiot system cuts the power in my car and I decelerate straight into the trouble/accident.
“Sheer brilliance. Only the EU could think of this as mandatory.
“I’ve driven lots of cars where you can set an audible warning for any speed you choose.
“Lower than the speed limit would be sensible in poor driving conditions.
The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) did initially push for a system that would have cut engine power when limits are exceeded.
However, after industry pressure, the tool was scrapped in favour of an audio warning system.
The ETSC has warned this would annoy drivers and would likely not be followed, therefore having “no safety benefit”.
Some motorists appear to have already considered this, with one claiming they will “ignore” the warning when it sounds.
Express reader ‘Urbanmongrel2’ added: “Limiting would be a danger as it would restrict someone from speeding to avoid danger for example.
“A bong is no issue though. Just turn up the music and ignore it.”
