SAN JOSE — A new fitness center has opened its doors at a San Jose shopping center, an endeavor that offers a welcome counterpoint to the grim coronavirus-linked business shutdowns of the last two years.
UFC Fit has begun operations at Westfield Oakridge mall. The new merchant could enhance the wide-ranging makeover of the South San Jose retail hub.
“We’re ecstatic to be a part of the San Jose community and to offer our dynamic mix of premium fitness experiences under one roof to local fitness enthusiasts,” said Adam Sedlack, chief executive officer of UFC Gym, which operates the new UFC Fit outlet.
UFC Fit began operations at Westfield Oakridge in late June and was set to have a grand opening and ribbon-cutting on Friday.
The new center occupies about 40,000 square feet at the site of an old Sears tire center.
The $7 million facility features a group fitness studio, a weight room with free weights and Olympic lift platforms, cardio and strength training equipment, personal training, a bag room, gym store and advanced fitness technology, according to UFC Gym.
The classes include cycle, HIIT and Zumba. UFC Fit also offers group fitness classes such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing and Kickboxing Conditioning that are inspired by mixed martial arts.
Crippling business shutdowns ordered by state and local government agencies to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus battered numerous industries, including the fitness sector.
Fitness merchants have been attempting to restore their prior businesses or launch ventures in new sites amid easing of the restrictions.
“We’re thrilled to introduce our innovative fitness model and world-class fitness experience to the community,” Sedlack said.
