New Hotels For A Fall Vacation In Oslo, Norway

Oslo is one of Europe’s fastest growing cities and its ongoing waterfront regeneration project is also proving a boom for tourism. The Munch Museum and National Museum have opened within the last 12 months, putting Oslo firmly on the art and design tourism map.

For many years, Oslo’s hotel scene underwent very few changes. But the last few years have seen impressive new hotels and renovations providing many more options for the curious traveler.

This summer has been no exception, with two brand new hotels opening their doors together with one long-awaited reopening. What’s curious is that all three hotels are outside Oslo city center, opening up more of the city to visitors than ever before.

Thirties style at Sommerro

Set in a dominant 1930s building in Frogner, the hotly-anticipated Sommerro has quickly become the place to stay in Oslo despite its location a little west of the downtown core.

A seductive thirties-inspired design is threaded throughout the 231 rooms, designed by Alice Lund and Adam Greco from London and New York-based GrecoDeco.

Dining options include the all-day bar and brasserie Ekspedisjonshallen and the Nordic-Japanese fusion cuisine of Swedish chef Frida Ronge at Tak Oslo, the city’s only rooftop restaurant.

While fall visitors are sure to enjoy the sparkling new hotel and spa treatment rooms, the full luxury spa experience won’t arrive until November 2022. By then, the former Oslo city baths will have been revived into a 15,000 square feet fitness and wellness center.

Radisson Red Økern

Urban design and sustainability share top billing at the Radisson Red Økern hotel. Radisson’s Red brand is targeted at a younger demographic than its business-focused Blu hotels. That’s obvious before you even enter the new Økern hotel thanks to its bright red exterior and red tiger sculpture complete with shades.

The hotel’s location supports Økern Portal, Oslo’s sustainability focused business park, but is only 15 minutes from downtown by public transit. A rooftop restaurant and bar provides impressive views across the entire city.

Inside the Radisson Red’s 204 rooms, visitors will find the latest technology to control the lighting and climate.

Scandic Holmenkollen Park

Perched high above the city, Holmenkollen Park has a rich history dating back 128 years. Following a 15-month renovation, the hotel is finally back open and it’s never looked better.

Modern concepts and solutions have been carefully added to this vast hotel while preserving as many original features as possible. There are now 376 rooms spread over 10 buildings. 27 of those rooms are in the eye-catching national romantic Dragestil style main building.
