New season at Montalvo’s Carriage House has everything from Hawaiian music to stand-up comedy

More than 40 musicians, comedians and artists are scheduled to take the stage in Montalvo Arts Center’s 2023-24 Carriage House Performing Arts Series.

The Saratoga venue today announced its lineup for the  the indoor Carriage House Theatre, located at 15400 Montalvo Road, starting in September.

Everything from jazz and Hawaiian music to classic rock and classical Indian music, stand-up comedy and one-person theater shows will hit the stage.

“When you see a show at the Carriage House, you are truly getting up close and personal with the artists. These intimate shows feel like the show is taking place in your own living room,”  Montalvo’s public performance manager Tim Reeve said.

Jazz fusion pioneers and Montalvo favorites Spyro Gyra will kick off the season on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The four-piece group started out in Buffalo, NY, and released 35 albums over more than 50 years.

Montalvo will host the 47th San Francisco Stand Up Comedy Competition on Sept. 12-13 at 7:30 p.m. Prior winners include Dana Carvey, Ellen DeGeneres, Sinbad, Patton Oswald, Will Durst, Dane Cook and Ralphie May.

The world’s premiere touring guitar festival, International Guitar Night, will bring in acoustic guitarists for solos, duets, and quartets of varying genres on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

This year’s program will feature acoustic guitar innovator Luca Stricagnoli, Vietnamese guitarist Thu Le, Brazilian composer and event veteran Marco Pereira and country electric guitar player Minnie Marks.

The season ends with The Makaha Sons’ performance on May 17 at 7:30 p.m. The group is considered one of Hawaii’s premiere musical groups, known for sharing Hawaiian culture through music.

Tickets for this season’s events go on sale Tuesday, May 23 at 10 a.m.
