New Spire To Be Placed On Paris’ Notre Dame By End Of 2023

Officials overseeing the reconstruction of Paris’ Notre Dame confirmed that a new spire will be placed on top of the cathedral before the end of 2023.

It’s been 4 years since a fire devastated the landmark, one of the most visited tourist destinations in Paris. Shortly after, President Emmanuel Macron vowed that Notre Dame would be restored and reopened to the public by 2024.

But one of the key areas of debate has been the spire. Some favored designs that would more modern, while others advocated for replacing it with a new spire with the same design as the original.

Eventually, the latter was chosen. The new spire will be built using oak for the structure and covered with lead.

Earlier this month, construction crews began installation of the 80-ton oak base of the spire.

Officials say the work such as cleaning and repairing the interior and restoring the organ are proceeding on schedule to allow the cathedral to reopen by December 2024.
