It was reported Wednesday that Chris Paul will be waived by the Suns this offseason. That would make him a free agent this summer.

According to Suns head coach Frank Vogel, the front office has not waived Paul.

Vogel discussed Paul’s future with the Suns during an interview with Chris Mannix. He claims there was a “misunderstanding” regarding the All-Star guard’s situation.

“Obviously there was a misunderstanding yesterday,” Vogel said. “We did not waive Chris, as was reported. But there are ongoing conversations about all of the options to improve the roster.”

Vogel also told Mannix that he’d like to work with Paul for the 2023-24 season.

“I personally communicated with Chris and feel strongly about the opportunity to work with him. He’s someone I’ve had immense respect for over the years.”

Paul is no longer considered an elite player, but he still averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists per game for the Suns this season.

Vogel, who was brought in to replace Monty Williams, is known for being a defensive-minded coach. It makes sense that he’d want to work with a guard like Paul who has made several All-Defensive teams.

Regardless if Paul is on the roster or not, the Suns will owe him $15.8 million for the 2023-24 season.
