The restaurant: Wolf + Wildflower, 7190 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge
About: Conceptualized by decade-old friends Tamara McTavish and Sarah Galloway, this women-owned wine bar highlights local vineyards through a partnership with Colorado’s Carboy Winery. It serves wine on tap and a pared-down, charcuterie-focused menu. The Wheat Ridge spot is a continuation of a culture of hospitality that seems to run in the family: McTavish’s husband, Jack, is the owner of Berkeley neighborhood hotspot Rocky Top Tavern.
The goal is to offer a unique selection of wines from obscure brands available by the glass starting at $8 with rotating daily specials. In addition to Carboy’s wines, Wolf + Wildflower has a selection of beers on tap. The space is open for indoor and outdoor seating, complete with a neon sign inside that reads, “You belong among the wildflowers,” a Tom Petty lyric.
“Nothing goes better with good conversation and good friends than good wine and good vibes,” Galloway said in a statement. “More than anything, we hope that Wolf + Wildflower becomes a welcoming neighborhood spot that helps to create a sense of community.”
What’s on the menu: Geared for grazing over a bottle of bubbly, the minimal menu offers two charcuterie boards with size options to accommodate every party, as well as a selection of flatbreads, salads and snacks like olives and hummus. There are several dessert options and even a brunch menu on weekends to accompany the bottomless $21 mimosas.
