Newcastle ‘decide next two signings’ after finalising £12m Kieran Trippier transfer

Newcastle will go after a new striker and centre-back after striking a £12million statement deal to sign Kieran Trippier, reports claim. The Magpies cannot afford to wait around in their quest for safety and therefore want to bring up to five new additions in this month’s transfer window.

The first is now nearly over the line in the form of England international defender Trippier, who arrived on Tyneside on Wednesday afternoon to undergo a medical.

Newcastle agreed a deal in the region of £12million plus add-ons for the full-back, who leaves Madrid after two-and-a-half seasons with Atletico.

Trippier has been the club’s top January transfer target since talks were initially opened way back in October.

Slowly but surely, the Magpies have managed to convince Trippier to join the club – albeit with a bumper salary.

With Joelinton now starring in midfield, Howe can be forgiven for questioning where the goals come from.

At the back, there are already a number of targets on Newcastle’s radar.

One of them is Sven Botman, who was the subject of a rejected £30million bid earlier this week.

Lille are not keen on a sale mid-season though and are attempting to price Newcastle out of a move.

Elsewhere, James Tarkowski is a name that is of huge appeal to Newcastle.

However, Burnley’s involvement in the relegation battle is problematic.

The Clarets do not want to strengthen a rival as they battle to beat the drop alongside the Magpies.

Tarkowski is now in the final six months of his contract meaning Burnley would have a decision to make if an offer arrived.
