Newcastle United could see their hopes of a successful move for Diego Carlos given a welcome boost over the next few days, with the player’s representatives having entered into crisis talks with Sevilla director Monchi, according to reports. The Magpies are believed to be keen on adding Carlos to their defensive ranks as they look to boost their chances of achieving Premier League survival between now and the end of the campaign.
The Brazilian centre-back has established himself as a mainstay for Sevilla since joining the club from Nantes in the summer of 2019.
He has started in all but one of his side’s La Liga fixtures since the beginning of the season, helping to keep 11 clean sheets and scoring two goals in the process.
Newcastle are said to have identified Carlos as their top target and have already seen at least two bids rejected out of hand by Sevilla.
The two clubs are reportedly some way apart in their respective valuations of the player, with the Spanish heavyweights set to take advantage of Newcastle’s newly-found riches by holding out for a premium fee.
It seems as though the proposed switch may fail to come to fruition if the Magpies decide against stumping up the cash required to secure Carlos’ signature over the coming days.

However, the player himself is keen on joining the Premier League strugglers and has instructed his camp to persuade Monchi into making a late sale, according to 90min.
The report claims that Carlos’ representatives have arrived in Seville for crunch talks in a bid to force through the move before the end of the month.
It is said that Sevilla are taking a similar approach to Carlos as they did with Jules Kounde when Chelsea tried to bring the Frenchman to west London over the summer.
The Blues agreed personal terms with Kounde but were ultimately priced out of a move for his services, with Sevilla refusing to accept any offers that fell below the player’s release clause value of £66million.

They are reportedly looking for around £60m in order to part ways with Carlos, meaning that Newcastle may be forced to double their previous bid of £30m to land the defender this month.
However, their efforts could be aided by his representatives if they are successful in convincing Monchi that a move would represent the best solution for all parties.
Eddie Howe recently voiced his concerns over Newcastle’s struggles in the transfer market despite making plenty of attempts to sign a vast number of players in recent weeks.
“It’s been frustrating in the transfer market,” he told reporters.

“We know we are against a deadline and we’re desperately trying to improve the squad. We’re working very hard behind the scenes, it has been a fruitless search this week.”
The Magpies have already completed the signings of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood since the beginning of the January transfer window to supplement their ongoing bid for top-flight survival.
They secured only their second Premier League victory of the season on Saturday against Leeds United to go within one point of 17th-placed Norwich City.
