Klopp signs new Liverpool contract through to 2026

Liverpool head to Newcastle United on Saturday with the chance to move back to the top of the Premier League with another three points in what would be their 13th victory in their last 14 matches.

But Newcastle are on a good run of form themselves after winning their last four fixtures to move into the top half, and will be looking to have a say on the title race by taking points off the Reds here.

The visitors are coming off the back of a 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, while the Magpies haven’t played since defeating Norwich City 3-0 last weekend.

When is Newcastle vs Liverpool?

Newcastle vs Liverpool will kick-off at 12:30pm on Saturday, April 30 at St. James’ Park.

The last meeting between these two sides came in the reverse league fixture back in December, when the Reds came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over their visitors at Anfield.

Jonjo Shelvey gave the Magpies a shock early lead against his former club after just seven minutes, but goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah had the hosts back in control by half-time, before Trent Alexander-Arnold secured the three points in the 87th minute.

Team news

The Magpies will be hoping to secure a shock result against the Reds on Saturday and Eddie Howe will be boosted by the fact he has no fresh injury concerns following last weekend’s victory over Norwich, but he is set to remain without five players.

Kieran Trippier (ankle) and Callum Wilson (calf) are both nearing returns from their long-term injuries but still aren’t expected back until next month, while the same can be said for Ryan Fraser (thigh), but Isaac Hayden (knee) and Jamal Lewis (groin) remain ruled out.

As for Liverpool, they continue to operate with a fit and healthy squad but Jurgen Klopp will be expected to make changes from the midweek victory over Villarreal, while he also picked up no fresh injury concerns from that clash on Wednesday.

Nonetheless, he has three injury concerns heading into this fixture. Roberto Firmino (foot) is now expected to remain out for a while longer, while Curtis Jones (illness) is yet to return to training, but Kostas Tsimikas (illness) has and should return to the matchday squad on Saturday.
