Typhoon Hinnamnor has ravaged parts of Japan and South Korea in the last few days. As per ABC News Australia, in Japan’s southern region, more than hundred people were evacuated and at least eleven facilities were damaged by floods. Factory work has also been suspended in parts of the two countries. The slow-moving typhoon is expected to bring potentially life-threatening rain and destructive winds to much of South Korea and far south-west Japan.

In the backdrop of this news, a Hindi news channel called News Nation in its broadcast on September 4 aired several clips allegedly of the typhoon with the watermark “News Nation Exclusive”. The six-minute long broadcast gained over 1 lakh views on the platform.
The broadcast by News Nation also appears among the first few results when we search “Japan Typhoon Hinnamnor” on YouTube.
In the comments of the video, a user called “Blue Moon” replied by saying that the channel was broadcasting “old pictures”.
Fact-check
Taking note of the comment, Alt News performed a keyword search on YouTube and came across a video from September 2018 titled, “Typhoon Jebi hits Osaka, Japan – September 4, 2018“. In this video, we found several clips that were there in the News Nation broadcast as “News Nation Exclusive”. Below we have attached side-by-side images comparing the visuals from the YouTube video to the ones broadcast by News Nation:
Visual 1: A man on a two-wheeler struggling in the wind
In this clip, we see a man struggling with his two-wheeler for several seconds before it falls. News Nation aired the clip at the 2:49-minute mark. In the YouTube video from 2018, we can find the same clip at the 0:31-second mark.
Visual 2: Video of a car rolling over
In this clip, a car that appears to be in a parking lot can be seen rolling over multiple times due to extreme weather conditions. This visual appears on News Nation’s broadcast at the 2:49-minute mark, and in the YouTube video from 2018 it appears at the 0:43-second mark.
Visual 3: Video of a container truck skidding on the road
In this clip, we can see a container truck lose its balance and roll over as it battles the strong currents of wind. The visual appears on News Nation’s broadcast at the 2:52-minute mark. The same visual can be seen on the YouTube video from 2018 at 0:51-second.
Visual 4: Uprooting of a shed
In this clip, we can see a shed in a parking lot that is moving like a wave due to the wind. This visual airs at the 3:12-minute mark in News Nation’s broadcast. The same clip can be found on the YouTube video at 0:04-second.
Visual 5: Uprooting of a roof of a house
In this clip, we can see the roof of a house gets uprooted and the debris dancing with the winds. News Nation aired this clip in its broadcast at the 3:18-minute mark. The same clip can be found on the YouTube video at the 0:07-second mark.
Visual 6: Roof of a warehouse getting uprooted
In this clip, the roof of a warehouse-like structure can be seen getting uprooted and a lightning strike appears at the bottom right corner of the screen. News Nation aired this visual in its broadcast at the 3:45-minute mark. We can find the same clip on YouTube at the 0:17-second mark.
Visual 7: A lightning strike at a building
In this clip, we can see a lightning strike a building or an electric that appears to be near a railway line. News Nation aired this visual in its broadcast at the 5:51-minute mark. The same visual can be found on the YouTube video at the 2:34-minute mark.
It is quite evident from the above screenshots that News Nation has lifted a YouTube compilation that is at least four-year old and aired it as super exclusive visuals of typhoon Hinnamnor. Moreover, some of the clips in the broadcast are in the same chronological order as the YouTube compilation video.
To sum it up, News Nation in its broadcast on September 4 aired at least seven old videos as visuals of destruction caused by typhoon Hinnamnor.
