Volvo raises the bar for sustainability with the 2025 EX30

People who seek out a brand’s fastest-accelerating vehicle are not necessarily the same types who appreciate the most sustainable option. But in the case of the 2025 Volvo EX30, there’s bound to be some overlap, because it is both. It’s also the smallest SUV ever with a Volvo badge.

The all-electric EX30 is available in two configurations in Canada, a single-motor rear-wheel-drive and a twin-motor all-wheel-drive. In the latter setup, the small SUV harnesses 422 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque to speed from zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Range for the RWD model has been estimated at 442.5 km.

That small stature is one of the keys to the EX30’s claim of supreme sustainability. Less car requires less carbon. But Volvo has also increased the amount of recycled materials used, including aluminum, steel, plastics, and interior textures like the wool blend that contains recycled denim clothing.

NRCan pegs 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV range at 724 km

If there’s a cure for range anxiety for electric pickup truck owners, Chevrolet can write the prescription because Natural Resources Canada has set the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV in Work Truck trim at an estimated 724 kilometres of range per single charge. That’s over 80 km more than GM itself initially predicted.

With the added range comes a decrease in power, down to 510 horsepower instead of 754, and towing ability is 8,000 pounds — down from 10,000. The electric Silverado’s 350-kW charging capability can add 160 km of range in around 10 minutes when linked to an adequate fast-charger. More details on the electric GM pickup here

In a world first, an electric vehicle has surpassed any other vehicle in global sales. That vehicle is the Tesla Model Y, according to data from JATO Dynamics published by Motor1.

Just as Elon predicted at the company shareholder meeting in 2022, the electric SUV beat out the 2023 Toyota Corolla and Toyota RAV4 to become the global top seller. A total of 267,000 Model Ys sold in Q1 of this year, a 69 per cent increase over Q1 of last year. Toyota wasn’t far behind, however, selling 256,400 Corollas over the same period and 214,700 Hilux trucks.

The Canadian price of the best-selling Tesla Model Y is $59,900.

Step back into the history of the original panther models by checking out what could be the “last” Camaro ever. The 2024 ‘Panther’ Camaro Collectors Edition’s styling is inspired by the so-called “Panther” prototypes that led the way for the 1967 debut model, so there’s lots of black. Panther Black Metallic Paint, 20-inch Satin Black or Polished Forged Wheels, and a rear spoiler pulled from the ZL1 package, also black.

Expect Canadian pricing to be announced when orders open on June 15. And while it may be the “last” Camaro for now, it won’t likely be the final as GM has let on that “this is not the end of Camaro’s story.”

After what felt like decades of watching Europeans have fun in the new VW bus, the long-wheelbase I.D. Buzz van — the North American version — is finally ready. In Canada, it comes with five, six, or seven seats. The five-seat setup is a Canada-only option, said to be for those who plan to fill it full of outdoor gear like bikes and paddle boards. In the upgraded seven-seat Canadian configuration, the second row is split 60-40 and the rear 50-50.

The battery is 91 kWh, larger than the short-wheelbase version’s, and the rear motor makes 282 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but an AWD model with a combined total of 330 horsepower is also available and expected to be the more popular option.
