The BBC Radio 1 DJ had been tweeting about his anxiety over catching Covid in the run-up to the festive season, before revealing on Tuesday that he was ‘locked inside til the 28th’.
Resharing a tweet from December 18, which read, ‘The anxiety of catching COVID and not being able to see my mum and her legendary roast potatoes for a second year is sending me under’, the 37-year-old added: ‘This aged like milk.’
Capturing the mood of a nation as the Omicron variant of coronavirus continues to spread, causing widespread concern over Christmas plans, Nick was also someone who was hankering after traditional seasonal fare (relatable).
He tweeted excitedly: ‘Just found out that my sister has bought 45 “full size sausage” pigs in blankets for Christmas Day. 45!’
As you try and grasp for a visual on that, the presenter then added: ‘The fun part being: the boyfriend has Covid so we are housebound in London missing this incredible northern bounty.’
This is an understandable blow to morale and all things Christmas.
Nick’s fans were sympathetic in the comments, sharing their own experiences of isolation disrupting their holiday plans.
‘Me too,’ wrote one follower, adding: ‘28th is the new 24th (shhh only tell the cool people).’
One of his neighbours also offered to entertain the couple with ‘a cheeky garden disco’.
Another commented: ‘Sorry your Christmas plans have been shattered, hope you still have the best time & then your own Northern one when it’s safe x.’
Others were a bit more forthright with their opinions on the importance of pigs in blankets, as one follower declared: ‘Sorry but if that was me and the pigs in blankets were on offer, the boyfriend would be having a lonely Christmas haha.’
The radio star was both amused and taken aback at her comment, chiding her by name but adding a cry-laughing emoji.
Nick has previously revealed that he and dancer boyfriend Meshach Henry, who he’s been with since 2018, are planning to start a family ‘soon’ as they explore the options available to them.
Appearing on BBC Two’s Walking With, he explained: ‘I don’t know when that will be but I hope soon. I think I’d love to have kids and have my own family; it’s definitely something me and my boyfriend have spoken about and whether or not we’d have a surrogate or we’d have them biologically or if we’d adopt.
‘I think the adoption route is the one that we’ve leant towards. I just think that there’s so many kids out there who need a home and need a loving family, and, you know, we could do that.
‘I’d love to adopt and provide that sanctuary for somebody or a few somebodies.’
