Nick Jonas Reflects on Losing a Major Role in the Wicked Movie

Despite his young age, Nick Jonas has built an enviable career and not only as a singer, but also as an actor. In addition to conquering the world with his brothers with their band, the Jonas Brothers, Nick has taken a few successful steps on Broadway, cinema and even television.

However, fortune hasn’t always been on the big star’s side, and even with everything he has accomplished, landing roles can be just as difficult now as when he was just starting out. A clear example of that is his failed attempt to be part of the upcoming adaptation of Wicked.

In an interview with Variety, the actor recalled his audition for the role of Fiyero, something his brother Joe was also trying to get:

“Yes, it’s true. Joe and I both went out, and we didn’t get it. But that’s the life of an actor. The role was Fiyero. I think it went really well. I was very happy coming out of the room. I’m a huge fan of the show, and that’s a role I always thought it would be fun to play. But I think Jonathan [Bailey] is going to do a great job, and I’m sure the movie is going to be great.”

Jonathan Bailey was finally chosen to play the part, joining stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum to bring the acclaimed musical to the big screen in Jon M. Chu’s movie.

The singer didn’t have any time to be sad after losing the part of Fiyero, since after it he got another amazing opportunity. Jonas will be starring in Robert Schwartzman’s The Good Half, which will be his first leading role.

The movie follows the story of Rann, a writer that has to rush back home in Cleveland after the death of his mother, which will force him to confront and deal with his past after years of running away from it.

The Good Half, which premieres later this week at Tribeca Film Festival, also stars Brittany Snow as Rann’s sister, Matt Walsh as his father and David Arquette as his step-dad.

Schwartzman and Jonas have actually been friends for a long time now, since the director’s band Rooney opened for the Jonas Brothers on tour. In fact, a friend they both have in common was the one that gave Nick the script for the movie to read it, and the singer recalls feeling the story was speaking to him directly:

“I felt like I understood the voice of the character. When we find him, he is going through one of life’s most challenging moments, the loss of a loved one. I’ve experienced that in my life, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve gone through.”

Nick Jonas started acting back in 2000 joining the A Christmas Carol musical as Tiny Tim. In Broadway he was also part of other successful plays just like Les Misérables, Hairspray and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

In 2009, he participated in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian with his brothers just after making the first Camp Rock, and even got his own TV show with them called JONAS. In 2017 he joined the Jumanji franchise in the sequel movie starring Dwayne Johnson, among many other titles.
