On Thursday, the 76ers officially named Nick Nurse their newest head coach. He quickly learned just how persistent the media can be in Philadelphia.
During this afternoon’s introductory press conference, Nurse was asked if he wants James Harden back on the roster. The former MVP has a player option for the 2023-24 season.
Nurse replied, “James Harden is a great player.”
The reporter then followed up that response by saying,”That didn’t answer the question.”
Nurse tried a second time to answer the question without giving away the Sixers’ offseason plans.
“Well, I would say this. James has a decision to make, and I’d be very happy if he came back,” Nurse said.

Harden’s offseason decision will have a huge impact on the 76ers’ championship hopes next season.
During the 2022-23 regular season, Harden averaged 21.0 points and 10.7 assists per game. In the playoffs, he averaged 20.3 points per contest but came up short in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
