Nicolas Cage has said he used to think he was an alien as a child.
The 58-year-old actor revealed that his father had described him as an ‘alien’ during his early childhood, so naturally he took him at his word,
However, he was left ‘shocked’ when a visit to the doctor’s office revealed that he did in fact have a ‘normal skeleton’ complete with regular human organs.
A bit of a blow to the young Nic, we can imagine.
‘My father told me he felt like he had to introduce himself to me because I was such an alien. I was shocked the day I went to the doctor’s office as a child and I found out that I had normal organs and a normal skeleton because I was certain I was from another planet,’ he revealed in a new interview.
The Oscar-winning star went on to explain that he always struggled to ‘connect’ with others and was eventually inspired by eccentric late pop star David Bowie to take up a career in showbusiness.
‘I had difficulties connecting with other people. When I saw David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth, I realised I needed to do something. So I became an actor,’ he told Ramp Style magazine.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent star, who loves shortbread so much he wore an outfit inspired by it to the premiere, is currently married to fifth wife Riko Shibata, with whom he shares three-month-old daughter August Francesca.
He also has sons Weston, 31, and Kal-El, 17, with actress Christina Fulton and third wife Alice Kim, respectively, and has previously tied the knot with Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley, as well as having a four-day marriage to make-up artist Erika Koike in 2019.
Nicolas has made headlines over previous bizarre claims in the past, once alleging that he had been stalked by a mime whilst shooting Bringing Out the Dead in 1999.
He explained to Parade magazine in 2009: ‘I guess it would fall into the stalker category more or less. I was being stalked by a mime – silent, but maybe deadly. Somehow, this mime would appear on the set of Bringing Out the Dead and start doing strange things.’
Saying that he had ‘no idea’ how it got past security he added: ‘Finally, the producers took some action, and I haven’t seen the mime since. But it was definitely unsettling.’
The Leaving Las Vegas star also allegedly never saw a penny for his Academy Award-winning role back in the 1990s, with director Mike Figgis claiming that neither of them were ever paid ‘because they said the film never went into profit’.
Nicolas has since become known for his wide-ranging CV, including action classics like Con Air, The Rock and Face/Off, as well as Colour Out of Space, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and Moonstruck.
However, he’s keen on trying out a musical and has been breaking the internet with his gothic get-ups while filming on horror sidekick flick Renfield as the main vampire himself, Dracula.
