Jack Wilshere is not a realisitic ‘option’ for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta should resist the temptation to hand the midfielder a short-term deal to re-sign for the club.

That’s according to club legend Nigel WInterburn, who believes Wilshere has spent too long outside the Premier League to be of any help to the Gunners now.

Wilshere has been training with the Gunners for the last two months and is working on his coaching badges.

However, given Arsenal’s lack of options in central midfield, Wilshere has been linked with signing a deal with his former club until the end of the season.

But Winterburn has advised Arteta against the move, saying Wilshere’s history with injuries does not make him a viable option.

‘Arteta has come out and said Jack is working towards his badges with the youth teams,’ Winterburn told Told Metro.co.uk on behalf of FreeSuperTips

‘If I’m honest, I don’t see it as an option.

‘I’ve seen Jack’s interviews and I know Jack is fit enough to play, but he hasn’t been in the Premier League for a while.

‘I’ve always stood up him because although I wasn’t injured a lot, I’ve seen others go through it.

‘Mentally, it’s difficult to get yourself back into training and then back into action with the first team, match by match.

‘I just feel with all the injuries he’s had and the time that’s gone by, I don’t personally see it being an option for Mikel Arteta.

‘I think if it was then it would have already happened.’
