After kick starting “The Wave” in 2021, Nike and Patta have joined forces once again to present its latest expansion of the same theme – the Nike x Patta “The Next Wave” Air Max 1.
Arriving in a new “Dark Russett” colourway, the latest delivery combines the classic Air Max 1 silhouette with Patta’s now iconic wave pattern, along with signature logo on the tongue and light blue finishes. Inspired by the African proverb “Each One Teach One” and the Dutch label’s unrelenting vision to connect, the accompany visuals also tease a second undisclosed colourway, which mirror the aforementioned details in a tonal white design.
In the spirit of the collection, Patta will host a 2-day mentorship exchange at Nike’s SHAPA Soweto community centre in the south of Johannesburg which will aid the “next wave” of creatives and musicians as well as photographers and fashion designers.
Speaking ahead of the joint partnership and mentorship program, Gee Schmidt, co-founder of Patta, said: “SHAPA serves as a safe space for the next generation of athletes and leaders. By bringing an exchange via the Patta Academy, we are thrilled to collaborate and connect with some of the brightest kids on the African continent through SHAPA.

Captured by US-based photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis, The Next Wave campaign highlights the new silhouette alongside a range of creatives including New York-based grill maker, Eddie Plein and illustrator Aya Brown, South African DJ DBNGogo, as well as South African entrepreneur, Wireless G.
The collaborative Patta x Nike Air Max 1 “The Next Wave” collection is set to drop on August 12 via the Patta webstore, physical locations and via SNKRS in Europe. The Patta Academy mentorship will kick off in August.
