The next-gen Nintendo Switch successor could launch far sooner than expected, according to a new report. The original Nintendo Switch launched all the way back in March 2017. It was followed by the Switch Lite a couple of years later in 2019, and by the OLED model in October 2021. With the console closing in on its seven-year anniversary, there are rumours that the Nintendo Switch 2 will finally make its debut in Q1 2024.
Sharp is rumoured to be manufacturing screens for the new device, while one European developer reportedly has a dev-kit.
It will certainly make the next few Nintendo Direct conferences worth watching, as we close in on an official reveal.
In terms of Nintendo Switch 2 games, the lack of footage suggests that Metroid Prime 4 could be one of the big Nintendo Switch 2 games at launch. A new 3D Mario game would also fit right in on the new device.
Sadly, we’re unlikely to see a new Legend of Zelda game anytime soon, although don’t be surprised if enhanced versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom make an appearance.
Fingers crossed Nintendo will also resurrect more of its dormant franchises, such as F-Zero and Kid Icarus.
