Nintendo Switch 2 release price – You’d better start saving for Switch succesor

There’s good news and bad news for gaming fans counting down to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. The next Nintendo console is heavily tipped to launch in the second half of next year. The rumours of a 2024 release date are backed up by reports that Switch 2 development kits are now in the hands of all the major studios. Unfortunately, however, the good news ends there, especially if recent pricing leaks are anything to go by.

Indeed, according to a new report by industry insider Zippo, the Switch 2 will be Nintendo’s most expensive console to date.

The console will reportedly cost $399 at launch, which is $100 more than the price of the original Switch when it released in 2017.

If the pricing rumours are true, then it’s likely that UK customers will have to pay around £370 for the Switch 2. This is around the same price as the PS5 Digital Edition.

In more bad news, the report suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 will have an LCD display, instead of a superior OLED screen.

The decision to use an LCD screen is seen as a cost-cutting measure for Nintendo.

The rumours of a Nintendo Switch follow up have been gaining ground in recent months, as more and more leaks come to light.

A report by Chinese site MoneyDJ claimed that a company called Hongzhun is manufacturing metal cases for a Nintendo Switch successor.

The reports have since been backed up by Microsoft court documents, which speculate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a 2024 release date.

In terms of Nintendo Switch 2 games, the lack of footage suggests that Metroid Prime 4 could be one of the big Nintendo Switch 2 games at launch. A new 3D Mario game would also make sense for the Nintendo Switch 2.
