No Covid death after 4 days, but Chandigarh tricity’s active cases cross 2,000

Chandigarh tricity’s active cases rose to 2,031 on Saturday, highest since 2,397 positive patients on February 9

The tricity recorded no Covid-related death on Saturday after losing five residents over the past four days.

However, its active caseload once again crossed the 2,000 mark after over five months, as 350 people tested positive for the virus on Saturday.

Chandigarh alone logged 157 cases. Another 110 people were found infected in Panchkula and 83 in Mohali.

This took tricity’s active cases to 2,031, highest since 2,397 positive patients on February 9.

At 891, Chandigarh has the highest number of patients who are still infected with Covid, followed by Mohali with 714 and Panchkula with 426.

Panchkula’s daily positivity rate climbed further to 18.3%, while in both Chandigarh and Mohali, 9% of the total people tested turned out to be positive.

Search operations at Rohingya refugee camps in Nuh

Gurugram: Nuh police on Tuesday conducted search operations at ten Rohingya refugee camps and recovered over 50 illegal vehicles. According to police, there are ten camps in Nuh where 1,771 Rohingya refugees (around 500 families) have been living since 2012. These camps are situated in Shahpur Nangli, Ferozepur Namak, Chandeni, Saddik Nagar and Punhana. A refugee whose camp was raided, Ansarul Houq, said that police seized their rickshaws, the only means of livelihood for them.
DSP death: Bail granted to one of the suspects

Gurugram: The chief judicial magistrate court in Nuh granted bail to Jabid aka Billa, one of the suspects arrested in connection with the death of Nuh deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Surender Singh. Billa was apprehended from Bibipur in Nuh Sadar on July 22 for allegedly helping the truck driver, who ran over DSP Singh, to flee to Rajasthan. He is one of the 11 suspects arrested so far in connection with the case.
