The illegal drug stash was allegedly discovered inside the four cheese wheels by U.S. Customs officers at the Presidio Port of Entry in Texas on Thursday via an X-ray scan, the New York Post reported.
The Customs and Border Protection said in a news release that the X-ray scan picked up “anomalies,” which led to them cutting open the wheels.
“Smugglers will sometimes try to conceal contraband in items that appear innocent to deflect suspicion,” said CBP Presidio Port Director Daniel Mercado.
“The thorough and extensive inspections performed by CBP officers stopped this unusual drug load from reaching its intended destination.”
The truck’s driver — a 22-year-old U.S. citizen — who was attempting the border crossing from Mexico into the U.S. was turned over to Homeland Security following the cocaine discovery and the drugs and pick-up truck were seized.
