North Carolina and Virginia meet in Charlottesville, Virginia in a marquee ACC matchup on Tuesday night.
This is a battle of two contrasting styles with Virginia’s methodical tempo and pack-line defense looking to slow down the up-tempo attack from North Carolina. The Tar Heels have had a volatile season so far after making a surprising to run to the National Championship game last season, but can they get on track in a road conference matchup?
Let’s check out the odds and find out:
North Carolina vs. Virginia odds, spread and total
North Carolina vs. Virginia prediction and pick
While Virginia’s pace is one of the slowest in the country, third according to KenPom, I believe that we will still see North Carolina push the tempo a bit and find some success on offense. Whether it is Pete Nance (game-time decision) or a smaller lineup that has Leaky Black play up a position at forward, the Tar Heels should be able to generate pick-and-roll offense to open up the Virginia pack-line D.
The Tar Heels have had their fair share of shooting struggles this season, below 32% as a team on the year, but the team is top 75 nationally in mid-range percentage so they aren’t over reliant on getting to the rim.
On the other side, North Carolina doesn’t turn its opponents over, 325th in TO%, and Virginia is top 30 in 3-point percentage. With Reece Beekman fully healthy at forward, I believe that Kihei Clark can operate at point guard and set the table for an efficient Woos offense.
It’s never pretty taking an over in a Virginia game, but with North Carolina on the other side, I think we see a higher than expected scoring game.
