North Korea has fired what could be its first ballistic missile launch of the New Year, according to the Japan Coast Guard.

An “unidentified projectile” was fired towards East Sea from North Korea, it was also reported by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Two ballistic missiles were believed to have been launched by Kim Jong Un’s regime last September as tension continues to simmer in the region.

Then Japan’s coast guard said the projectile appeared to have landed outside the country’s “exclusive economic zone.”
