The Northwestern Wildcats are the No. 2 team in the Big Ten standings entering Sunday’s action, but they have a tough matchup with one of the best home teams in the country, the Maryland Terrapins.
Maryland is 15-1 at home this season, edging out Indiana (14-1 at home) for the best record at home in the conference.
Northwestern had been on a heater, upsetting the Hoosiers, Purdue and Iowa before losing to Illinois on Thursday night. It comes into this game as a sizable road underdog, a spot that it is familiar with this season, going 5-2 against the spread in seven games.
Maryland is 19-9 on the season, coming off a monster win over Minnesota at home in its last game. The Terrapins are elite in College Park, but can they hold off this pesky Northwestern squad and cover?

This is the first and only matchup between these teams, so we don’t have anything from earlier this season to go off of.
Even though Northwestern has been great as a road underdog, the Terrapins home dominance can’t be underestimated. They are 12-4 ATS as home favorites this season, one of the best marks in all of college basketball.
In fact, the Terrapins have double-digit home wins over Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin this season.
Both of these teams rank inside the top-30 in the country in points per game allowed, and while I’d usually lean towards the home team in that scenario, I actually think that favors the Wildcats at this number.
A lower-scoring game should allow Northwestern to keep things close, and the Wildcats shoot the ball from 3 slightly better than the Terrapins this season.
Maryland can put up a ton of points on bad teams like Minnesota, but it’s usually going to find itself hanging around the 60s against a quality team like Northwestern. This is just a few too many points to give Northwestern, who is hitting its stride late in the season.
