Arsenal’s 2021 in review

The festive football calendar is here and there are some real Christmas crackers shaping up for Boxing Day.

Among them is Arsenal’s trip to Norwich in what threatens to be a potential banana skin to Mikel Arteta’s men amid their decent run of form.

The Gunners have won their last four games on the bounce to get back into the top four and book their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

And Arteta will want nothing more than to carry on that run into the new year, though must first navigate a tricky meeting at Carrow Road.

It’s been a difficult end to the year for promoted Norwich, and even new boss Dean Smith is struggling to reverse their current struggles.

But home form has been more positive under their latest manager, offering at least a glint of hope that they could take something from Arsenal, who have won just one of their last four matches on the road.

Here is everything you need to know about the clash.

When is the game?

Norwich vs Arsenal will take place on Boxing Day with kick-off set for 3pm at Carrow Road.

The Gunners were last on this ground two years ago in December 2019, where Norwich held out for a 2-2 draw during Freddie Ljungberg’s interim spell in charge for Arsenal.

What channel is it on?

Despite all the televised football offerings over the festive period, sadly for fans of both clubs, Norwich vs Arsenal isn’t one of them.

Given the match kicks off at 3pm it falls inside the Premier League’s blackout window, meaning those unfortunate fans without a ticket will have to wait until BBC ‘s Match of the Day for highlights, which is broadcast from 10:40pm on BBC One.

The programme can also be streamed via the BBC iPlayer.

Team news

Arsenal look set to be without several players, including Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari and Albert Sambi Lokonga; all of whom have contracted Covid-19.

Sead Kolasinac remains sidelined due to injury while it is not clear whether Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be fit to return after illness.

The big news is surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and if the former Arsenal skipper will be selected by boss Arteta.

Aubameyang has not featured since his disciplinary breach saw him stripped of the armband and his future at the club is still up in the air.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s status within the Arsenal squad is still unclear

Offering a hint as to whether the forward could be involved, Arteta said at a press conference: “We have shown in this club, everybody can make mistakes and have different ways of thinking and acting…I’m completely open to that.”

Meanwhile Norwich could welcome back winger Milot Rashica, who has been out since the end of November but is nearing a return to action.

Mathias Normann and Ozan Kabak are also expected to be available while there remain doubts over the fitness of Grant Hanley.
