Notion wants to write you a poem.

The popular note-taking and database app has released Notion AI in private alpha today, becoming the latest consumer technology company to incorporate generative artificial intelligence.

In response to a request from a user, the new functionality can create functional scaffolds for blogs, social media posts, and other assets. A meeting agenda, press release, brainstorm, or poem can also be generated by Notion AI.

You can see a video of the functionality in action by watching the video below.

Aside from that, Notion AI can speed up the research and editing process for writers. The AI can, for example, analyze and summarize articles, pulling out critical points and action items. Also included are advanced spelling and grammar corrections, as well as translation capabilities.

Access to Notion AI will be granted on a first-come-first-served basis for those who join the waitlist. To ensure high-quality content, a Notion spokesperson said the company plans to roll out the feature more widely in the coming weeks. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were well over 50,000 users on the waitlist.

Though the company says Notion AI is free during its alpha test phase, the functionality will likely cost extra in the future.

Notion is not the only company providing these type of AI-powered copywriting features. Jasper, Bearly AI, and Picsart all offer very similar copywriting tools thanks to OpenAI’s GPT-3. The Google Workspace platform will soon include Wordcraft, an AI-driven copywriting assistant.

However, Notion does have a user base estimated to be north of 30 million people, many of whom use it to write and compose. Writers would be able to integrate AI into their existing workflow without switching apps.

A spokesperson for Notion declined to answer whether the company uses GPT-3, saying the company tests with different partners and does not have its own in-house AI for language processing.
