Good boys, good boys, whatcha gonna do?
The New South Wales Police Force will have access to 60 new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Proline SUVs that allow officers to remote-release their canine counterpart in the event of an emergency.
7News reports the NSW Police Force has invested $2 million in the fleet of SUVs, set to be delivered over the next 12 months.
The custom-fitted module was designed in conjunction with dog handlers to ensure it meets the standards required by the canine unit.
The dog box features a little window inside the vehicle so the dog can reach its head into the front row.
“I think that one of the great parts is they actually [are] in the car with us, so I can open the little window and he is licking my ear,” said Detective Sergeant Luke Ellem.
Other features of the new installation include a temperature alarm and air-conditioning and ventilation for the dogs.
The announcement comes as the NSW Police Force commits to improving the safety and comfort of its officers and dogs.
The NSW Dog Unit was founded in 1932 and assists in general purpose, drug, firearms/explosive detection and human remains duties across the state.
Volkswagen doesn’t currently offer any genuine accessories for its retail customers’ furry friends, though other brands have stepped into this space.
Nissan last year announced a Dog Pack for its Patrol, as well as the previous X-Trail and Qashqai.
