Nikola Jokić is far from the loudest NBA superstar, so his words carry extra meaning in the Denver Nuggets locker room.
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, the two-time MVP addressed the team following Denver’s Game 2 loss to the Miami Heat. DeAndre Jordan, who called out his teammates for a lack of effort, was caught off guard by the atypical occurrence.
“It caught us all by surprise. It was unexpected,” Jordan told Haynes after Wednesday’s Game 3 win. “When Nikola says something, everybody’s awareness is heightened. I always compare him to a guy like Tim Duncan. He’s never really super boisterous, but when he does speak, it speaks volumes.”

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said Jokić “got our attention.”
“When you hear him talking after a game, you make sure you listen,” Caldwell-Pope said. “He’s not a real big vocal guy. He shows it more on the court. He leads that way.
While Jokić speech resonated with the team, the 28-year-old didn’t recall what he told them.
“Honestly, I don’t remember that I was talking. So if I was saying something, I don’t remember what I was saying,” Jokić told Haynes. “Maybe it was just my emotions at the time. I don’t remember, to be honest. Maybe they’re just all crazy. But I think I’m normal. When I say something, it’s not that I’m trying to be vocal. There’s a purpose. When I see something, I’m going to say it. I’m never going to talk just to talk.”
Per Jordan’s account, Jokić urged them to show more energy and fight. Jordan said players were “hyper-focused” heading into Game 3.
Denver took a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals with a 109-94 win over Miami. Jokić led the way with 32 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists.
