A nun who won Italy’s version of The Voice has left the sisterhood to become a waitress in Spain.
Cristina Scuccia, 34, who was known as Sister Cristina during the 2014 season, stunned judges during her blind audition with a cover of Alicia Keys’ “No One.”

Coaches J-Ax and Noemi were the first to turn around and their reactions were priceless, particular J-Ax’s who implored the other two judges – Piero Pelu and Raffaella Carra – to turn their chairs around.
Carra reportedly “couldn’t speak for several minutes” after learning the voice of an angel belonged to a nun, The Guardian reported.

She ended up winning the show with her performance of the theme song from Flashdance, Irene Cara’s 1983 hit “What a Feeling.”
At the time, Scuccia was a nun at the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family in Milan.
She went on to produce an album, which included a cover of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” — and even sent a copy to Pope Francis.
But after getting a taste of the limelight, Scuccia revealed she is no longer a nun.

“I believe that you need to listen to your heart with courage,” she said on Italian talk show Verissimo, according to the paper.
“Change is a sign of evolution, but it is always scary because it is easier to anchor oneself to one’s certainties rather than questioning oneself. Is there a right or wrong?” she asked.

Scuccia, no longer in a habit but wearing a red pantsuit with high heels and a nose piercing, explained that leaving nunhood after 15 years was a decision her psychologist helped her make – but she made it clear she wasn’t renouncing her faith.
Rather, she just had a dream to make music.
“I’ve never doubted God, God is life,” she said. “But I could no longer grow while remaining within the rules. My dad died and I decided to take a sabbatical year, a year of silence and travel.”
She now lives in Spain where she works as a waitress.
“I chose to follow my heart without thinking about what people would say about me,” she said. “I took a leap of faith and was worried about ending up under a bridge.”
She added: “Sister Cristina is within me. I have had a marvelous journey but also a complex and difficult one. They were the most beautiful years of my life.”
