The shocker took place in the main event of this week’s NXT where “Dirty” Dom pinned the former strong champion to clinch the first-ever singles title of his entire WWE career since debuting at Summerslam 2020.

The win didn’t come without controversy as his Judgment Day cohorts – Ms. Money in the Bank Damian Priest, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, and Finn Balor helped him in pinning Lee, as expected.
Lee had Dom downed with his fiery moves when Finn Balor had a run-in to distract the referee. Priest tried to clock Lee from behind but he was down with a Kardiak Kick, instead.
Eventually, Dom’s “Mami” turned out to be the difference maker as she hammered Lee with the Women’s World Championship, allowing Dom to simply pin Lee to pick up the biggest win of his career and become the new NXT North American Champion.
Before this week’s Lee vs. Dom matchup, WWE’s Free Agent Mustafa Ali was scheduled to challenge Wes Lee for the NXT North American Championship at the NXT Great American Bash premium live event on July 30th.
Mustafa also told Lee that he wanted to face him at NXT Great American Bash for the Title, and not Dominik Mysterio. However, after Dom’s win, Ali will have to go up against the top heel of the Raw roster at Bash.
Meanwhile, this victory marks the end of Wes Lee’s impressive reign as NXT North American Champion which started all the way back at the 2022 Halloween Havoc in October of last year and lasted for a record 270 days.
Lee defeated Carmelo Hayes, Nathan Frazer, Oro Mensah, and Von Wagner in a Fatal-5-Way Ladder match to win the then-vacant title ad defended it on regular occasions to prove himself to be the strongest champion over the past several months.
While dethroning Wes Lee marked Dom’s first singles championship win in WWE, he is a former SmackDown Tag Team Champion. That historic win came at Wrestlemania 37 when he held the tag team gold with his father Rey Mysterio.
Now, Dom’s first title defense will go down at the 2023 Great American Bash premium live event which is scheduled for Sunday, July 30 at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas.
