Oakland A’s 2024 schedule: A’s will open what might be final season at Coliseum at home

OAKLAND – The A’s will open their 56th, and likely final, season in Oakland at home on March 28 against the Cleveland Guardians. The potential final A’s regular-season game in the Coliseum could be Sept. 26 against the Texas Rangers.

The A’s have begun the process of applying to MLB for a move to Las Vegas. Their lease at the Coliseum ends after the 2024 season and the team confirmed last month it plans to play at the 55-year-old facility for at least next season.

The team’s relocation bid is down to a vote by MLB’s 30 owners, with 23 votes needed to move the team. But even if approval is granted, construction on the new stadium isn’t expected to be completed until 2028, leaving at least a three-year gap for the A’s to find a suitable stadium to play home games, although it appears unlikely the team will remain in Oakland after the Coliseum lease expires.

This will be the seventh time in franchise history that the A’s have opened their season against Cleveland, with the most recent instance coming in 2014. The A’s also face some big early series in April, hosting the Red Sox and Cardinals while traveling to take on the Rangers, Yankees, Guardians and Orioles. The Dodgers visit the Coliseum for a weekend series Aug. 2-4.

The Bay Bridge Series against the Giants is July 30-31 at Oracle Park, and then Aug. 17-18 at the Coliseum.

The A’s are home for Memorial Day weekend (vs. the Astros), 4th of July (vs. the Angels), and Labor Day (vs. the Mariners).

On May 8, coincidentally the 56th anniversary of Catfish Hunter’s perfect game at the Coliseum, the club will host the Rangers for the first of two scheduled traditional — pay once, get both games — doubleheaders across the Majors in 2024.

The A’s open the season with a seven-game homestand: four against the Guardians and then three against the Red Sox. The regular-season ends with a three-game series in Seattle Sept. 27-29.

The longest trip of the season — 10 games in 10 days — comes in mid-May when the A’s travel to Seattle, Houston and Kansas City. The A’s road slate also includes a full week in Chicago in mid-September — starting with three games against the White Sox, and then a three-game series at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

The A’s don’t face the Angels, their Opening Day opponent four of the past seven seasons (including this one), until the end of June. The Angels — with or without Shohei Ohtani — make their first Coliseum appearance on July 2. Interestingly, the division rivals will play all 14 games against each other over span of five weeks — including the All-Star break — and wont face each other after July 28.

National League teams coming to the Coliseum, in addition to the Giants, Dodgers, and Cardinals, are the Nationals, Pirates, Marlins, Rockies and Brewers.

The All-Star Game is July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
