Off-Roading Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato Revealed, Limited To 1,499 Examples

You would be forgiven for thinking that a high-riding Lamborghini Huracán with off-road tires and rallying intentions would be a concept car. Perhaps one intended to appear in the next Forza Horizon video game, and nothing more.

But no. Lamborghini is deadly serious, and the car seen here is the production version of the 2019 Sterrato concept, ready to blast across sand dunes. Or safely mount the kerb outside your local shopping mall.

Naturally, the car is named after its intended purpose. Sterrato is Italian for ‘dirt road’, so you can safely assume this Lambo will manage a trip across gravel tracks without cause for concern. Lamborghini describes the car, which was revealed this week at Art Basel, Miami Beach, as: “The first super sports car designed for maximum driving please even away from the asphalt on loose or dirt surfaces,”.

The car comes with an updated version of Lamborghini’s Integrated Vehicle Dynamics system, which comes with Sport and Strada modes calibrated specifically for this car, as well as a new Rally mode for low-grip conditions.

“With the high-speed all-terrain concept of the Sterrato, we have uniquely combined the driving experience of a true super sports car and the fun of driving a rally car,” said Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer. “Lamborghini cars always deliver emotion: the Sterrato delivers a new degree of driving thrills.”

Lamborghini says how the remodeled exterior “expresses the adventurous spirit” of the car, with a 1.7-inch (44 mm) increase in ground clearance compared to the Huracán Evo, plus a 1.18-inch and 1.34-inch increase to the front and rear track, respectively. To protect the car, aluminum front underbody protection is used, along with reinforced sills and rear diffuser, plus beefed-up wheel arches. An air intake mounted behind the roof ensures a supply of clean air to the engine when driving on sand and dusty roads.

Power comes from the same 5.2-liter V10 as used by the rest of the Huracán range, producing 602 horsepower and 413 lbs-ft of torque at 6,500rpm. This is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and electronically controlled all-wheel-drive with a rear mechanical self-locking differential. Performance is a claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph.

Changes have been made to the car’s digital instrument cluster, which now features an inclinometer with pitch and roll indication, plus a compass, geographic coordinate indicator, and steering angle reading.

Lamborghini says it will produce 1,499 examples of the Huracán Sterrato, and production will begin in February 2023. A price has not been announced publicly.
