The viral image featuring anti Modi placards shows a protest Against Modi in Berlin in May 2022 by Amnesty International and other Human Rights Groups

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New York on June 20 on the first leg of his maiden state visit to the U.S. Modi led the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21 and will hold bilateral talks with President Joe Biden in Washington.

In this backdrop,The anti-Modi  posters are going viral on social media and users who share claims that these are of the recent anti-Modi protests amidst PM Modi’s recent visit to the United States of America. 

In the post we can see protesters carrying the placards reminding Modi of Gujarat 2002 ,Another placard says,Mr. Modi “We don’t let you forget,” Protesters also carried banners saying ‘stop genocide in india . The cption states that  “ #ModiNotWelcome  Anti Modi posters in America.CP Ab bhi duniya mei Sachche insaan he..”

Fact Check

We examined the image closely and discovered a date stamp of 02-05-2022 on it. We figured it was an old picture that had been presented as recent. A reverse image search on Google brought us to an old tweet shared on 3 May 2022 with four photographs depicting a protest against Modi in Berlin. This viral image is also included among the four photos. 

Keeping this in mind we searched further and found an article by the Sisat Daily published on 4 May 2022 with the caption “PM Modi faces protests in Berlin for human rights violations in India”. As per report “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Berlin was welcomed by protests in Berlin, the capital city of Germany. “Modi down down” slogans were reportedly raised by protestors while PM Modi received a guard of honor by German national guards.

In further search we found a video on Instagram uploaded by Newscred on 3 may 2022 with a heading “Amnesty International, Other Human Rights Groups Protest Against Modi In Berlin”.

According to Clarion India “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to European countries, has faced protests over the incarceration of human rights defenders and violence against minorities in India. On Monday, when Indian Prime Minister was receiving guard of honors by the German National Guards in Germany, protesters shouted slogans ‘Modi Down Down’.

We also found a video along with a tweet “Modi faced protests in Berlin for the human rights violations happening in India under his watch. Don’t get fooled by the Indian Media showing a bunch of NRI Sanghis chanting Modi Modi. He faces protests everywhere he goes.”

From all these evidences it is clear that the old images of protest against PM Modi in Berlin shared as recent protest in US.

Conclusion

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along the viral image to be False. The viral image featuring anti Modi placards shows a protest Against Modi in Berlin in May 2022 by Amnesty International and other Human Rights Groups. It has no link to his recent visit to US.
