LeBron James entered the NBA in 2003 with considerable hype, and looking back 20 years later after all the former No. 1 pick has accomplished, it’s easy to conclude that everybody was convinced of James’ greatness from the outset.
That wasn’t quite the case though, as a video trending on Twitter Monday illustrates. The 20-second clip features snippets of James’ early Cleveland Cavaliers teammates downplaying some of the buzz around the 18-year-old wunderkind.
Carlos Boozer can be seen saying that Cleveland already has players on the team at LeBron’s position who are better than he is, while Smush Parker doubts that James can come in and have the impact “like a Caron Butler.”
Lastly, Darius Miles questions whether any high school prospect can turnaround a team that quickly.
“If he comes, he can just hop on our bandwagon,” Miles said.
Never forget LeBron’s own teammates doubted him when the Cavs drafted him…

Obviously, all of these guys were proven wrong. James was a superstar from the moment he stepped on an NBA court, and he hasn’t looked back.
It’s very funny to hear these comments in retrospect, even if it made some sense for the veteran Cavs to temper expectations for the local kid.
