Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacked from Manchester United

John Terry reckons there will be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that will be ‘relieved’ that he has left Manchester United.

The Norwegian has been sacked in the wake of Saturday’s horror 4-1 defeat to Watford.

United stuck by their former player for as long as they could, but they finally had to wield the axe after an inexcusable result at Vicarage Road.

Terry knows Solskjaer will be hurt by the club’s decision because he is United “through and through”.

But the former Chelsea captain also reckons it’s those close ties to the club that will make him feel relieved that he is away from the situation he found himself in as United fans started to turn on him.

John Terry has reacted to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking at Man United

He told Sky Sports News: “When you are Man United like Ole was it is difficult to take. It will hurt him for sure.

“But it is a results business, we all know that going into it. It is really sad it has happened but unfortunately it’s part and parcel of the job.

“It is difficult. Ole is Man United through and through but when you don’t get those results it is difficult.

“Yesterday when you see him walking off, apologising to the supporters, it is not a good place to be.

“In a way, he will be half-relieved too to be away from it.”

Solskjaer has opened up about his exit in an emotional farewell interview as he insists managing the club was an “honour and a privilege.”

He said: “It’s not for everyone and I have had the opportunity and I am so honoured and privileged to have been trusted to take the club forward and I really hope I leave it in a better state than when I came.

“I made great friends and reconnected with great friends. New staff coming in, I have become really good friends with, the other staff that were here when I was there (as a player) we are good friends and we connected.

“And that’s what it is about at a club like this with the fans because the fans have been amazing. From day one at Cardiff to the last one now, so, top, and we’ll see each other again.”
