Twenty-three years ago today, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and the Los Angeles Lakers overcame a 15-point fourth quarter deficit in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals on the way to the first of three straight NBA championships.
The win was punctuated by Shaq’s iconic alley-oop dunk from Kobe with 40 seconds on the clock.
Tonight, Shaq reflected on that moment with his NBATV family, admitting he’d trade it if it meant Kobe would still be with us.
I’m happy that it happened but every time I see my young fella, he’s not with us anymore, it kinda makes me sad. Of course it was a happy moment. But, if I could trade that moment and have him sitting here with us … that would be better for me.

The duo’s highlight is a mainstay in NBA promotions and playoff ads and is without a doubt one of the most memorable visions of 2000s basketball.
It’s hard to believe we’re over two decades removed from that dunk, but it’s never gotten old.
RIP Kobe Bean.
