On this day in 2013 – MS Dhoni created history becoming the first & only Indian Wicket-keeper to score a double Hundred in Test.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 380 courtesy a hundred from Michale Clarke. Ravichandran Ashwin picked seven wickets while Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets to wrap up the Australian innings.
In reply, India were reduced to 12 for 2 before a 93-run partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Sachin Tendulkar brewed. Later Tendulkar partnered for 91 runs with Virat Kohli before getting out for 81. Dhoni walked in with India four down for 196.
He forged a 128-run partnership with Virat Kohli who brought up his fourth Test hundred in the match. However, that was outshined by the double hundred from Dhoni who became the first wicketkeeper-batter from the country to achieve the feat. He had smashed 24 four and six sixes when James Pattinson dismissed him for 224. The elusive record stands tall as there hasn’t yet been a second wicketkeeper-batter from India who has scored a double ton in the longest format of the game.
Former opener Budhi Kunderan holds the record for the second-highest runs in an innings of a Test match by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter. He scored 192 runs in the first innings of the Chennai Test during the 1964 tour of England.
Rishabh Pant’s 159 not out at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during India’s 2018-19 tour is the third on the list.
Coming back to the 2013 Chennai Test, India defeated Australia by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead. Dhoni was adjudged Man of the Match for his record innings. Australia could never recover from that defeat and were whitewashed 4-0.
