One-man pitch invader launches Woodside PROTEST

A pitch invader carrying a flag that read “Disrupt Burrup hub” has taken to Optus Stadium during Walyalup’s* (Fremantle’s) clash with Geelong.

The bright yellow flag was protesting Woodside’s Burrup Hub, a controversial project at Murujuga in the State’s North West.

Woodside is a major sponsor of the Dockers.

The protester entered the field of play near the half-forward flank at the north-east end of Optus Stadium, running to the middle of the ground before being tackled by a security guard.

A group of three security guards then carried the man off the far side of the ground.

He was also wearing a plain white shirt with the same message emblazoned across the front.

The Dockers’ clash with the reigning premiers is being played in front of a crowd of about 35,000 spectators.

The resource giant’s presence as the club’s major sponsor was protested late last year by a group of its highest-profile supporters, including former premier Carmen Lawrence.

More to come.
