Osimhen breaks silence on Napoli future amid Arsenal interest

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has stated ‘anything can happen’, after reports claim Arsenal have submitted a £51million to sign him.

Mikel Arteta is keen to draft in one or two forwards this summer, as he looks to add further attacking options.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the Gunners in January to join Barcelona, and Alexandre Lacazette has also departed, with the Frenchman set to sign for former club Lyon in July when his contract expires.

Eddie Nketiah is also out of contract, but has been offered a deal to stay.

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have submitted a £51m bid for Napoli forward Osimhen with hope of luring him to north London.

It is understood the Serie A giants are holding out for £85m, and it remains unclear as to whether the Gunners will offer so much for the Nigeria international.

Osimhen, who is also a target for both Manchester United and Real Madrid, has a prolific goalscoring record for Napoli, netting 28 goals in 68 appearances since joining the club in 2020 from Lille.

Last season saw him net 18 goals in 32 appearances, having been the standout player for his side, helping them to a third-place finish in Serie A.

Despite speculation over his future, Osimhen has claimed he will always do his best for club and country, whilst admitting ‘anything can happen’, having previously been flattered by links to Arsenal.

“I know there are many people that would like me in Spain or England, but I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about it now that I’m with the national team.

“I always go out on the pitch to do my best both with the national team and with my club,” he said.

“I don’t know my future, I know anything can happen, but now I just want to go on holiday with my family, clear my head and recharge my batteries. Then we’ll take care of everything else.”

The 23-year-old scored four goals as Nigeria beat Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Monday.
