Lucas Moura will leave Tottenham at the end of the season after Antonio Conte decided against offering the forward a new contract.

Moura’s deal expires at the end of the season, but Spurs did have the option to extend his stay by another year, though that clause in his contract had to be triggered by December 31st.

That deadline has of course now passed, and according to The Athletic, the club opted against keeping him around and the player is now free to leave.

However, the 30-year-old is not looking to go in January and will instead depart in the summer on a free which will give him more time to work out the next phase of his career.

Moura joined Tottenham in January 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain for around £25million and went onto establish himself as a Spurs hero.

So far, he has scored 38 goals and made 27 assists in 213 games for the club, and is most famous for his dramatic hat-trick against Ajax which secured Tottenham’s place in the Champions League final in 2019.

He has failed to hit double figures in a season since then though and this season injuries and competition from new signings Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have limited his game time.

Moura has managed just 90 minutes of football in the Premier League and is yet to register a single goal contribution in 11 appearances across all competitions.

As a result, this Sunday will very likely be Moura’s last North London derby, as Tottenham host arch-rivals and league leaders Arsenal.

Tottenham’s form has suffered of late, which has left the club fifth in the table and with questions over Conte’s future, as the Italian manager is also out of contract in the summer.
