Sunrise co-host David Koch has warned his followers that scammers are trying to use his image to lure people into clicking on dodgy links.
Kochie posted examples of the odd scams to his Instagram page, which included sketchy captions including “the scandal that left everybody shocked” and “he said how he makes his money”.
A separate scam appears to depict Koch as behind bars, included next to a blurred photo of a man of a similar build being led away by police, with the headline, ‘he had no idea that the camera was recording him … the end of his career?”
“Beware … 2023 and the financial scams keep on coming more than ever,” Koch wrote on Instagram.
“The one on the left came up on @realestateaus as I was scrolling the site. The one on the right was sent to me yesterday from Instagram.
“They are scams trying to con you by illegally using my image and attributing fictitious comments to me.”
Koch wrote in October last year that scammers using his image were getting “out of control”.
On that occasion he again warned social media followers not to click on any links to bizarre articles using his image, and said he had reported the ads to the ACCC.
A commenter on Koch’s post said social media companies should be doing more to stamp out the predatory fake articles.
“Instagram and Facebook have the ability to stop all these scams. They seem to choose not to,” they said.
“The problem is people still fall for these scams,” another person said.
“I don’t understand how that happens.”
Koch and co-host Natalie Barr have been on their summer break, with Weekend Sunrise hosts Monique Wright and Matt Doran filling their posts during the holiday period.
