Out-out makeup ideas for party season, whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist

Can you feel that? It’s excitement. This time last year we stayed home with no plans and nowhere to go. Now? Social events are back on the agenda and we’ve got actual occasions to look forward to. Yeeehaaa.

Of course, if we’re going out-out, the first item on the agenda that needs our attention are our makeup bags. They may have gathered dust over the course of 2020, but no more; we’re booked, busy and ready to show them a good time. 

And, because we’re feeling renewed, rejuvenated and a little more adventurous (let’s see how long that lasts), we’re even open to letting that random shunned shade in the corner of our eyeshadow palette have a moment. Who knows? It might be fun.

In fact, this unprecedented occasion calls exclusively for joyful, soulful, colourful celebratory makeup. We’re talking diva-level maximum glam. Our re-entry into the world of party makeup is an opportunity to rediscover ourselves and fall back in love with makeup and experimentation. It’s an opportunity to leave our comfort zone (and trackie bums), play with surprising splashes of colour and have fun. We’ve earned it.

Christmas is the best time for this. Not that you can’t rock up to your office with a next-level glitter eye all year round (because we’d fully support that), but since it’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year we really ought to dress for the occasion. It means our makeup needs to be as twinkly as Marks & Spencer’s store window. We’re talking eyeshadow that can smoke up a storm. Silvery smokey eyes, ultra glazed cheekbones, feel-good dashes of sugar plum pink, festive shades of eyeshadow and, of course, plenty of glitter.
