Anticipation for the season seven premiere of Outlander was sky-high ahead of its debut on June 16.
With Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) in the frame for murder and her other half Jamie (Sam Heughan) hellbent on clearing her name, Starz and Lionsgate+ viewers watched in eager anticipation as to how their story would unfold.
However, just moments into the season seven opener, many fans’ excitement soon transformed into “disappointment”.
This is because of the series’ latest change to its opening title sequence and theme song.
The Skye Boat song has undergone a number of changes over the years but season seven’s performed by Sinead O’Connor doesn’t appear to have struck the right chord.

Taking to Reddit following the latest episode, a number of fans voiced their opinions on the latest tweak to the famous anthem.
Outlander fan U/AppalechainWhoo began the thread by saying: “Can we take a moment to be sad about the slow murder of the intro music over the seasons? Oof.”
And before long, a number of other viewers agreed, including U/Corona94 who fumed: “Gotta say when i first heard s7’s i nearly took my headphones off.”
Meanwhile, U/wenlo3073 echoed: “I agree. I like the season 1 version only.”
The sentiment was held by other fans including U/everybodylovesmemore who weighed in: “This season was the first time I recoiled in confused disappointment.
“I liked the previous changes. They set the vibe of the new season. I usually listen to it on the first and last episode of the season.”
While U/skysteppa commented: “For me, there’s really nothing like the song for the first season.
“When she turns up the old timey radio and it gets a little louder?! Amazing. I try to love them all but… slow murder feels accurate.”
However, there was still some defence for the latest tweak, with U/thestrangemusician arguing: “I wouldn’t say slow murder.
“There’s been bad ones and good ones. Season 7 is bad, but i actually really like the duet in season 6 with the gaelic as well.” (sic)
Starz unveiled the new title sequence way back in February.
However, it appears the months-long preparation granted before seeing the credits as part of the episode still wasn’t enough to win some fans over.
