This year, Starz’s hit fantasy series Outlander will finally premiere its long-awaited sixth season. However, the instalment will include some major changes, which will be unfamiliar to fans who have read the novels written by Diana Gabaldon.

Thankfully for viewers, Outlander will hit the screen in March and while a number of changes have been made, all have been approved by author Diana Gabaldon.

The show is the onscreen adaptation of a series of best selling novels written by Diana and while the previous season has followed the events of the book, season six will be different.

In November, Diana shared a snippet about the upcoming instalment, during a conversation about her latest book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.

The author revealed: “The first episode is absolutely spectacular. It’s wonderful,” Diana continued, “They’re all good. As a matter of fact, this is the first season where I have not had a single episode that I found less likeable.

“They always do a good job; it’s just which direction they’ve chosen to head in. Anyway, the season is extremely good throughout.”

Although she initially teased, “A number of things happen,” Diana soon lifted the lid and disclosed certain episodes are set to be focused on specific characters.

“A couple, for instance, are focused heavily toward young Ian and his life with the Mohawk and what happened there.

“Whereas, others are more closely focused on Jamie and Claire. And there’s quite a bit on Roger and Brianna and Fergus and Marsali.

Thankfully for viewers, season six will actually have eight episodes, although it will still remain the shortest season in the series.

The instalment was reduced due to the difficulties production faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing rules.

Season six will be based on Diana’s sixth novel A Breath of Snow and Ashes, which readers now know will have major changes onscreen.

Other fans have predicted other differences the series will have, in comparison to the book.

It was previously unveiled the Christie family would be the latest addition to Outlander and would soon be residing on Fraser’s Ridge.

In October, showrunners released a script of the upcoming premiere, which revealed Jame Fraser (Sam Heughan) had doubts about Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) moving in.

Although the two had some disagreement and rivalry in the past fans hinted it could get worse in the upcoming season.

Taking to Reddit, user TheCoolDeadpool predicted Tom could fall in love with Jamie’s wife Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) which will undoubtedly cause friction on the Ridge.

Outlander season six will premiere on Starz on Sunday, March 6.
