Crystal Palace 2 Wolves 1
The Eagles talisman had time and space in the visitors’ box to pick his spot from Odsonne Edouard’s pass and beat keeper Jose Sa with 20 minutes remaining and give manager Patrick Vieira’s side the points.
But it had been a far from simple evening for Palace, who needed Eberechi Eze’s far-post header to cancel out an Adama Traore opener.
Wolves, coming into the game on the back of a morale-boosting victory over Nottingham Forest last Saturday, started brightly and saw Vicente Guaita superbly deny Diego Costa.
Palace’s Cheick Doucoure hit the woodwork soon after but Wolves led on 31 minutes. Debutant Hugo Bueno flung in a cross and Traore headed home their first away goal since the opening day.
Wolves skipper Ruben Neves struck a post with a free-kick right on half-time and Vieira’s men were booed off but came out firing in the second period and were level within 60 seconds.
Michael Olise threw in a deep cross from the right which Eze nodded in.
The stage was set for Zaha to score the 70th-minute winner – his fifth goal of the season – and leave Palace tenth and Wolves one point off the drop zone.
