Netflix has announced eight new actors who just joined the cast of their popular show Squid Game’s second season. The first season of the web series, directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk was released in 2021 and became an instant hit. Squid Game 2 script reading begins

On Thursday, Netflix shared photos from Squid Game 2’s first script reading. It featured the director with Season 1 actors Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun and Wi Ha Joon who will be returning in the next season. Among the new cast members are Im Siwan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun who were also present at the script reading session.

Netflix has now added actors Park Gyu Young (of Sweet Home), Jo Yu Ri, Kang Ae Sim (of Be Melodramatic, Move to Heaven), Lee David (of The Fortress), Lee Jin Uk (of Sweet Home), Choi Seung Hyun (of Tazza: The Hidden Card, Commitment), Roh Jae Won (of Missing Yoon, Ditto), and Won Ji An (of D.P.).

According to a report of Soompi, Squid Game is scheduled to begin filming in July. Earlier, Hindustan Times had reported that Season 2 will have 456 contestants who will compete in a series of non-lethal challenges to win a prize pool of $4.56 million. The new season will not have deadly games but is touted to be thrilling and intense. Netflix earlier confirmed that Squid Game: The Challenge will release in November this year.

Squid Game premiered on Netflix on September 17, 2021. It bagged 14 Emmy nominations for the first season. It won six, including a historic win for actor Lee Jung Jae who became the first Asian actor ever to receive an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama. He was also the fourth Asian actor to win the Emmy and the first to win the drama award for a non-English speaking role.
